Walking Activities near Mill Village Self Catering Cottages
The scenic beauty and the variety of landscapes makes Co. Down
a great place to explore on foot. Walkers and ramblers can choose
from miles of sweeping coastal paths such as at Murlough Nature
Reserve which supports a wide range of animal and plant species,
forest parks including Tollymore (The Long Haul Trail) and Castlewellan,
with its famous arboretum, lake and the world's largest maze,
and Delamont Park with the Millennium Megalith and Ireland's Largest
Miniature Steam Railway and of course the Mourne Mountains, with
Slieve Donard, Ulster's highest peak, a mecca for walkers and
hill walkers alike.
Close to Mill Cottage enjoy walking any of the above routes or
by the Quoile Pondage Bird Sanctuary, stopping off at the Countryside
Centre, or follow part of the Ulster Way, the famous circular
path, now largely way marked, 560 miles long and running all round
Northern Ireland through areas of outstanding natural beauty.
The St. Patrick's Way offers breathtaking views of the verdant
Lecale countryside across to Strangford Lough and beyond.
