Mill Cottage Accommodation In Detail
The scullery Mill Cottage dating back to 1650 and built from local field stone has tremendous character. The patio area leads to the back door with its old traditional half door. The scullery has a small settle and hand built and painted cupboards (concealing a washing machine and tumble dryer). It is lit by original brass lamp fittings as used on the White Star liners and railway coaches reminiscent of the Titanic era.
The kitchen
The kitchen is very spacious and bright and fully equipped with washing machine, fridge freezer, dishwasher and microwave. The bespoke kitchen units are custom built from reclaimed Oregon pine with granite worktops. The red and white checked curtains, hand painted display units and reclaimed pine dresser add to the cottage feel.
The red Esse range is always hot and ready to cook on and provides a constant cosiness in the kitchen. It is also super for baking in.
The kitchen includes a dining area with a pine table and five chairs. It is very well equipped with good quality crockery and kitchen utensils. We will be delighted to provide a high chair on request.
The living room
The living room is a large sunny room which enjoys delightful views across the verdant County Down countryside. It features wooden ceilings and polished wooden floors (reclaimed from the Guinness Brewery Dublin). It has been tastefully decorated in traditional Farrow's cream with original engravings hanging on the walls. A remote control TV and video and CD, radio and stereo are provided .The oak dresser, which is well stocked with books and some games, adds to the old world charm. In the 1800's the cottage was leased by the Quail family who emigrated to America in around 1780. The original "Quail family" fire surround has been restored and combined with a traditional hob grate inset suitable for a log, coal or peat fire - whichever you prefer for a relaxing evening in front of a warm open fire.
The first bedroom
The two bedrooms are located off a sunny hall. The first bedroom retains the intimacy of the original cottage with the comfort of modern living. It features a King sized bed (5 feet), hand crafted wardrobe and dressing table and an open fire with a quaint original Victorian fire surround. It is a bright room with a large window looking out onto the cottage garden and a small Georgian window in the wall giving a 'jam wall' effect.
The Bathroom
The bathroom is between the two bedrooms. It is a spacious room and is fitted with a toilet, basin, bath and fixed head Aqualisa power shower. We have tried to reproduce the original colour of Reckitt's Blue.
The Mill Bedroom
The mill bedroom is large and very restful. The ceiling is pitched to the rafters with original beams, original pointed stone walls, polished floors and an antique pine wardrobe. It is well lit by three windows overlooking the mill gable, front and back gardens and also has a ceiling light to capture the sunlight by day and allows you to watch the stars in bed at night.
